Gem Coach ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising purposes. Your fitness and health information is used solely to provide the Gem Coach service to you.
Information We Collect
Account Information
- Name and email address (provided during sign-up)
- Profile photo (optional, uploaded by you)
- Authentication provider (Apple, Google, or email/password)
Fitness & Health Data
- Body metrics: age, height, weight
- Fitness goal (Lose Fat, Build Muscle, Maintain)
- Activity level and workout frequency
- Daily calorie and protein targets
- Food items and meals you log
- Workout sessions (type, duration, intensity)
- Sleep hours
- Manually entered calorie and protein values
Usage Data
- App feature usage (AI scans used, messages sent, workout plans generated)
- In-app purchase and subscription status
- App session and interaction events for improving the product
Device & Technical Data
- Device type and iOS version (for crash reporting and compatibility)
- Push notification token (for delivering reminders you configure)
We do not collect or access: your contacts, location, Health app data, microphone, browsing history, or any data unrelated to fitness tracking.

AI Features & Data Processing
Gem Coach uses AI to provide personalised coaching, meal analysis, and workout recommendations. When you use AI features:
- AI Food Scan: Photos you take are sent to Google's Gemini AI API for food recognition. Photos are processed in real-time and are not permanently stored by us.
- Trainer Chat: Your messages and relevant fitness context (goal, today's logs) are sent to our AI service to generate responses. Chat history is stored in your account to provide context for follow-up questions.
- Daily Coach & Insights: Your logged data (meal names, calories, workout status) is sent to our AI service to generate personalised advice.
AI-generated content is strictly scoped to fitness and nutrition advice. No sensitive personal conversations are stored beyond what is necessary to provide the service.

Data Storage & Security
- Your data is stored securely in Google Firebase (Firestore) with encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest.
- Access to your data is restricted to your authenticated user account only.
- Profile photos are stored in Firebase Cloud Storage and accessible only to your account.
- We do not store payment card details — all purchases are handled entirely by Apple via StoreKit.
Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated data (profile, logs, meals, chat history) is permanently deleted within 30 days.
Anonymous usage analytics may be retained in aggregated, non-identifiable form for product improvement purposes.

All permissions are optional. You can deny any permission and the core app features will continue to work. Permissions can be changed at any time in iOS Settings → Gem Coach.
Children's Privacy
Gem Coach is not directed at children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data via the Profile edit screen
- Delete your account and all associated data
- Export your data — contact us to request a copy
- Withdraw consent for optional data processing at any time

Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Gem Coach after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
